TOPIC: EVAP system leaks video including a simple fix

Hi ya'all, I found this short youtube video re: EVAP system leaks. This guy has put up many good diagnostic videos, this is another one. He shows some detail re: charcoal canister, the tubes, hoses, etc. Then- he shows some technique to remedy the most common EVAP system leak.

I was just filling up an hour ago, and noticed that the mating surface of the filler neck that the o-ring of my gas cap meets/seals is a mite brown/corroded. I'm going to find my dremel accessory kit with the wire wheel in it and buy a tube of silicone grease and take care of that this weekend, dang it!

Alternatively, Greg, maybe just a piece of a Scotchbrite pad, or a steel "toothbrush" could give the abrasion it needs.

I believe I do have a stainless steel scrubber hanging out under my kitchen sink...
You’re right: a wheel on a high speed tool might be a bit much for the job. Since I’ve accumulated tools, though, I’m inclined to find uses for them.

Just take a can of cleaner, a green scrubby and some elbow grease to it!!!

Umm, yeah, Greg, Ron has a point there... I simply thought that the Dremel woud be overkill here, not thinking that Overkill could literally be the result...!

I'd just find a thin Sotchbrite pad and rub any corrosion off, then a wipe off with some WD-40. The silicone grease on the gas cap O-ring is the cherry on the cake!

Good news: I'm still around.
The scrubber I used with some Deep Creep definitely smoothed some gunk off the filler neck, and the silicone seal of the cap got cleaned up in very short order with a rag and a few drops of good ol' MMO. I thought that seal was SUPPOSED to be a beige/brown colour...not anymore. a qtip's worth of lube and I won't be worrying about an evap leak there anytime soon...
and I haven't driven much, but there definitely is a pedal feel difference: it seems I can get off the gas sooner when starting from a stop. probably had a wee little leak that the computer didn't think was important, and threw more fuel at to compensate
