I grooved my Grand two days ago and was thrilled when it started straight away and has been delivering great results. I'm only 92kms into a tank of fuel and the results are already showing. A brief 10km trip through town, to fill the tank, resulted in an average of 12.2L/100kms. That's just plain incredible. I filled the tank and reset the trip meter and fuel consumption gauge, so I can ensure that everything agrees.

Before:
Hwy: 12 L/100kms
Mixed: 16 L/100kms

After:
Mixed: 12.4 L/100kms

I've also noticed that the transmission isn't downshifting on hills where it used to. I'll keep adding to this post as I have more results.

I

Throttle body prior to grooving.

After grooving (plenty of room for improvement)

After rerouting the Idle Air Control

Happy Days!

Hi Will,

Welcome aboard... and nice job. Amazing what a little groove will do, eh!

One thing to keep in mind, confirm your mileage gains at fillup, the computers can show a change but their accuracy goes out the window as they do not know what has happened to the air/fuel mix. The ecu only knows what it has been programmed to interpret.

Which in a way is pretty cool!. :)

Also, don't forget about the spark plug adjustment, increase gap by 20%. test on first plug to make sure it fires then do the rest.

Thanks Karl,

I've been thinking about the plugs non-stop, but I chose to groove my Prius first :)
I've just completed it and my technique is definitely on the improve. I feel much better about this one.

I'll set up a different thread for the Prius and be recording the trip meter mileage for the next few tanks on each vehicle and report as I go.

Excellent job, Will! Nice clean work ya did on this, especially your first one.

IAC dam/trench is excellent too.

Sounds like about a 25% KPL gain...with a power boost!
