Got a job on a 2004 Prius. Wanted some input. Reviewed the 2 posts that I found for 06 and a 10. Dan seems to be the guru but could not find any of his vehicles posted.

What I am looking for;

any special tools needed?
Just plug PCV or both PCV and EVAP and redirect?
Any thing else that is helpful

Dan your input please

thanks

Prescott

Hi Prescott,

I wouild just redirect the PCV and if there is a IAC, adjust that as well.

Don't forget the plugs 20% gap increase. ( I would stick with that for now, I'm doing some tests with my Avalanche, trying different gapping to see the response.)

Check the users list, the e-mail addresses are listed.

04 prius same as 06 no special tools pcv vaccum is on ft throttlebody. Very easy groove job if youve grooved anything before should take 10 to 15 minutes total, easiest ones Ive ever done. Idle is throttle body butterfly controlled. The prius will come alive. I had these posted dont know where they went. I also cut upper outside on the newest one and gained alittle more usually doesnt make alot of difference. dan

Dan and anyone else that has Grooved a Prius,

your procedure for erasing memory was to ground it out overnight. I was only able to short it for 1.5 hours.
Also, is rerouting the EVAP important at all to see mileage gains?
It has been 3 weeks and 4 tanks of fuel. He will be calculating mileage using the tried and true method.

Thats long enough , What is the mpg been avg and where are you located Ill let you know the type of fuel. The prius is not good in the cold climates as they run winter mix and the o2s dont switch untill the coolant has a chance to get hot as it is very cold natured. the mpg will be about 6 to 8 mpg less than the summer mix and months.

dont worry about evap

The car general gets 54- 55 mpg in the summer, 42- 45 in the winter depending on outside temp. After the mod, the temp dipped into the teens, the fuel mileage dropped to 42 mpg.

I'm in Maine. Not sure where you are at. Have you ever partially blocked the radiator? What about a warm air intake?

Just to eliminate the question before it comes up, I capped the PCV at the TB.

The owner called with an update. Performed tried and true method of measuring mpg. It matches what the computer is showing. Mileage has risen to 45 mpg. He gave his claims of winter mileage a second thought and said mileages hoovered around 40 mpg in winter.

Will be visiting him again to perform partial block of radiator.

Some FYI on this motor. It is an Atkinson Cycle motor, 4 stroke converted to 2 stroke.
