Awesome, Bill!
Wow a blow-thru Turbo'ed '78 Subie w/ a Grooved Weber, now that's far out!
Man I wish you were closer to me...back in '05 when I was trying to rebuild the EA82 engine in mine, a machine shop ordered O/S pistons in the first O/S diameter. Turbo pistons were what came in. They couldn't get regular flat top non turbo ones Finally months later another shop was able to source the flat tops, made in China. Only ones we could get. I assembled the engine carefully myself, that later astonished the lead wrench at a local Subaru specialist shop, he was surprised I had split the cases...but back then I had access to a shop, today I just have a driveway/shed.
Seems now like the piston thing was trying to say something...But I didn't want to go through all the conversion work. Needed the car for a courier job, why I bought it.
Any pics of the Weber carb Grooved?
Folks on the Subaru forums might find this interesting...
Glad to hear that it picked up power. Don't think anyone has ever posted a Grooved Weber. did you have to back-fill the primary carb barrel?
I've read elsewhere where a guy took one like mine, replaced the stock carb and intake w/ an intake from an injected one and also a Weber carb a 32/36 DGEV I think. He modded the mounting flange to fit the Weber, said the stock intake (like mine) would be restrictive w/ this carb. sounded like he had good results.
Also I notice a GM alternator I think? Obviously this dude digs modifications, ya just gave him a great one!
I will eagerly soak up anything else you can put up re: Subies (or anything else!)
Way to go, Bill!
