I grooved a Ford 460 engine over the weekend that runs on propane; this engine is set up to only work an in-ground water pump for irrigation through a pivot.

With the throttle set as previously before the groove, a 12" flame was visible at night coming out of the headers. Pressure was 6oz and reduced down until the spring was completely removed from the diaphragm. It is still unclear how low the pressure is right now, the owner is still running tests to see how low he can get it and still maintain his 30-35 lbs of water pressure. Throttle went from 1/3 open to 1/8 open after the groove, and the owner is very pleased with the results of such a small groove.

No other mods have been done at this time, but this engine runs 24 hrs a day, 28 days straight until the alfalfa is ready to harvest. Mods are in the works for this engine, but we are going to try different diaphragms to see how low the pressure can be with just the groove.

now THAT's interesting, Ken! Did you get any pics of this one? What carb. is it? The reduction in throttle opening, if it supports the load as well, is very telling... B) Will watch for more info as to gas regulator settings too, and if it becomes more efficient- this could open a whole new application for Gadgetfolks!! :woohoo:

This is exciting, a static engine test like this: it indicates just how much more efficient an engine can be made, strictly from fuel consumption, which has been benchmarked over the years, no doubt.
Please include mod details, Ken, and results!

I am very pleased with what's been going on in my absence. The experiments keep happening and the results are no less amazing, no matter what ICE receives the modification.

The first Prpane engine I did was an old and very tired fork lift with a V-6 Vortec. The thing started running like a bat out of hell and had so much more power the owner was shocked. It became so sporty that his employees began using it as a run-about over the three quads they had for that purpose.

I LOVE THIS JOB!!!

I'm glad you do too.

Welcome back Ron! :woohoo: :cheer: ;)

I am incredibly grateful to see you (at least here) again! You have been missed, believe me!

We have kept the lights on, through ups and downs, and kept the Revolution alive. What you started all those years ago, is still here. I and others realized that this Work and accumulated knowledge must not pass away.

My friend, you have been through a dark night. And though it is still difficult, it WILL get better.

Much Better!

Thanks for what you have taught us all, we all can Rejoice that you will be with us again! :woohoo: :cheer: ;) :P

Love ya, Ron!

We changed engines and only need a chevy 305 to do the job of the big block, talk about using less fuel.
