TOPIC: Where to cut The Groove

I just got done with my first attempt at making a groove and it seems to be off by quite a bit. I'm getting ready to fill the groove with JB Quick, but I noticed there's a hole on part of the groove. it looks like if I fill the hole with JB Quick it might block the tunnel that it's connected to. Any advice?

When you say you're off, what do you mean? too close or far from the butterfly? both have issues of their own, but frankly, I wouldn't worry about re-cutting that pretty groove (man, that's REALLY nice work, the groove and the IAC channel) until you've driven it; it looks to me like you can get in through the IAC hole to plug that with a dab of epoxy mixed with the aluminum shavings. A wee little patch won't disrupt what a nice full groove can do, and may even make it's effects greater!

Ron's said frequently that Gadgetpeople have to be brave and nimble when approaching problems to be solved. look at the "problem" from another way: see if you can come attack it from behind! You may be surprised at just how much room there is back there.

I agree looks great and not too hard to patch that area. Id feel good about it if i were you. I expect you will have good results too. Keep us updated!

A quick note on the Pressure Zones...

You want the vacuum to the MAP Sensor to be the LOWEST PRESSURE available. More on this will be coming as I create the initial thread on Modifying the Map Sensor Vacuum for Better Mileage.

Looks like a clean groove to me! A tiny hole like that should be way easy to fix and you should feel some cool throttle response especially after vtech. Good luck bro and please follow up!

Thanks for the advice Greg! I'll plug the hole and try it out on my van. The only reason I said it was off, was because when I take the business card out that's holding the throttle plate where it is, the plate comes forward a little bit more and hangs over the groove. So I thought the groove might be too close. In the pictures I posted, the business card was holding the plate back. I'll post another picture with the card out to show what I mean. This is my first time making a groove so I just wanted to double check

that's the rest position of the plate so the computer can get a correct BARO reading for the MAP at startup. It closes down, so the plate won't be over the groove until you're driving.

The use of a business card as a device to hold the throttle plate in position is ONLY used on the GM Computer-Controlled throttle bodies!

Any good results with groove?

No results yet. I'm going to redo the groove without using a business card like Ron said and see if I get better results. I'll update if I see an increase in mileage or power.

I'm hoping TracyG chimes in on this; he may have evidence to the contrary...which might indicate that we have more to learn and changes to make to the manual as necessary.

I've done over 3,400 Grooves to date, and the only ones I use the business card on are the GM's.

But hey! If you wanna do that, I am the FIRST one to encourage you to experiment!

You're going to find the further The Groove is from the plate, the more diminished the effects...
