I'm considering doing the PCV system block-off/re-route but need some help. Inspected the top of the engine today and noticed the PCV valve sits on top of the intake manifold just to the right rear of the TB in a plastic housing. Doesn't have any hose or tube going to it like traditoional PCV systems I've seen. I did see a breather hose that connects the oil filler housing to the air filter housing.
I watched a video of Gadgetman Michael Lee with his 2009 Ram 5.7 Hemi and he removed the PCV valve and filled it with JB Qwik.

Paul, so the images are visible, once attached click "Insert" where you want it to appear, Videos from YouTube just paste the URL.

Enjoy!

My question is, how is the crankcase pressure vented if the PCV valve is plugged off? Is it through the oil fill housing to air filter box hose? If so, is that really enough venting? Just want a little assurance before I take the plunge with this. Obviously I can just swap back in a new PCV valve if I don't like the results.
Thanks,
Paul

This is not the only vehicle with an internal replaceable PCV. Whenever you run across one, clean it thoroughly to remove the oil, mix up a SMALL batch of JB-Kwik and fill the holes.

You will find when you use this JB, it is easy to clean up with a little carb spray and a rag. EDIT: This is only BEFORE the JB Kwik hardens!

I LOVE my JB Kwik!!!

That last, bottom photo - is the blue plug the PCV? If so, I find it interesting that the valve and the EGR port to the manifold are located so close together...
(If you've checked out the tail end of my daily driver's megathread, you'll see I've added water induction to the intake to not insignificant effect - both exhaust and crank vapours have water content from combustion)

consider your question - if there is indeed pressure in the crankcase, why would it need to be evacuated with the aid of manifold vacuum? shouldn't it just want to look for the quickest way out?
Our mod (even though Ron often suggests leaving the hose to vent those fumes to the atmosphere) combines them with the breather line going back into the manifold under a variable vacuum - the one controlled by the throttle/your right foot. (I like to think of it as enriching the intake airstream)

Thanks Ron and Greg,
I will grab another PCV and some JB Kwik and get that all set up for installation in a few days and then report back results.

Yes, Last night my PCV order came in so grabbed some JB Kwik and filled in both holes and let it set up over night. After work today, I will be installing it into my truck.

All right - out with the old, in with the plugged! Installed the new plugged PCV tonight and took a 30 minute test drive. All seems to be in working order. Idle and acceleration are the same. RPM's are the same. Just have to give it week or so to see if MPG changes any for the better or worse.

Just remember, Paul, you MUST use the power to keep the ECU setting ignition timing at a more retarded point!

Be more aggressive on take offs and speed changes. NOT setting land speed records, just a little more pedal for a little longer time. It\s counter-intuitive on the surface, but you'll see...

Ron’s technique makes acceleration feel like a jet’s takeoff run down the runway: relentless power overcoming the forces trying to restrain it...just back off the throttle when you get up to speed and cruise. That’s where the efficiencies kick in.
Mind you, I find It’s not a “punch it” thing, but a smooth and more than usually necessary application of throttle - get your foot in deep and with authority. Short freeway on-ramps aren’t so worrisome any more. ;)

Been running with the plugged PCV valve for almost a month now and haven't really seen anything in the way of better MPG but I'm not worried about it. I know I have at least eliminated the vacuum robbing effect.
The good news is, as of this morning, I have pulled the trigger and ordered a grooved throttle body! Took advantage of Ron's discount and can't wait for this to come in and install it.
I'll let you all know my results as soon as there are any to report.

Round about the time I re-routed my PCV system is when I started sniffing my tailpipe. I think this is when I started noticing that exhaust was smelling less like used fuel and more like hot air.
