This link is for those with duel coil pacs or have 8 plugs on 4 cylinders.
Some say they feel extra torque right away and a smoother running engine and others say they didnt notice a difference or lost MPG.
Stumbled across this link by doing a search for problems with my B2500 not getting results with the groove. Seems like Ford Rangers are known for being stubborn for MPG increases but this mod has helped some get an increase in torque and MPG.

Jumpin' Jeepers, Karl, I never knew it wasn't setup to already be firing both plugs in the power stroke to begin with! Well, I read that thread through, the poster had no problems. Amd like was said there as long as one isnt trying to run lousy gas in it I don't see any reason not to try it. You already have Torquemaster plugs, right? If $$ wasn't an object I would use Granetelli MPG+ wires on that engine, non-resistor. But that's me! :P With the way Ford did this coilpack/dual plug thing is screams Factory Band-Aid to me. They might have a design that's inherently kinda inefficient, at least as far as emissions goes.

So the bean-counters made the Engineers come up w/ a cheap way to reduce the emissions to make the EPA folks happy! Cheaper than a more extensive re-design, or a way to stick with a design//tooling/factory setup they already had to get more model years outa it. I smell possible hidden power/efficiency here, buddy! A one minute mod easily reversible...I say Try IT!

Yup, did it already.
Read about 60 posts on this with some very positive and some very negative but the negative in general was that there was no difference or a loss in MPG. So went out and did a one minute mod before posting the link on this board and noticed a little smoother ride when I got over 50. The Scangauge tells me Im getting better mileage but that will not be determined until I fill up the tank again. Scangauge has given MPG numbers that were not true before so I learned not to trust the MPG reading on there.
Wish I could get the fuel trim reading but my model does not give it to me with all the times I tried. Dan says that is the way to see what is really going on with the engine. Think I have to download another feature for this model to get the 02 readings since my research came up negative.

PS. Did the cable mod with the zip ties also.

Cable mod? ya mean the Nascar style where you make plug wire spacers from zip ties to keep wires separated? A cheap way to prevent ignition cross-firing, but one should not see that much nowadays unless using really Crappy plug wires anyway! But I've used it before, it does work.

I wonder if there is more to be had on this engine from further Ignition upgrades...? Might go back to see what else the serious racing types say 'bout this engine, I'm not familiar. But hey, it's only Money, right!

anyhow Karl, I'm very glad to finally hear of some gain on this 'lil truck! You've certainly been at it awhile now! Seat-of-the-pants IS a good indicator in my book anyhow.

And-thanks for sharing this 'lil Ignition trick, I'll remember it!

I followed the link in the first post the other day and took a look. Interesting….

Karl which scan gauge model do you have? I'm guessing the e.

Do you have a smartphone, tablet or laptop?

I have the Scangauge II and have a laptop and smart phone.
Is there a link to download the ability to get the trim readings on the Scangauge I have?

If your scangauge has the ability to use the x-gauge commands then you should be able to add the fuel trims.

Too many SG models and my box doesnt tell me which model I have also. Supposedly have to play with it and go to Xgauge feature and program in a bunch of codes in order to get other readings. If this is true, my though is why didnt they just program them in from the get-go. Not sure if this is what is required but if it is, then this will have to pass until I get enough info on the codes I need and how to program them in.
Will try to call the company on this for better understanding. Wondering from comments I hear if the SC is responsible for me not getting any results from the 3 big mods I did on this truck.
Some say it just reads the vehicle info but others think it can change how some devices work.
The jury is out on this hence why I need to call the company.

Im not the only one having trouble understanding the workings of SG. Here are just a few comments on another forum I found doing a search for SG codes and programming.

RE: Scangauge question
Supposedly there's a ST & LT trim option you can set using the xGauge options. I don't know how useful that is.

I can vouch for the fact that changing my MAF mod setting screws up the mileage big time on my SG, more than any other mod I've done.

RE: Scangauge question
I wouldn't use the Scanguage for anything mileage wise except for "relative" purposes. It has been off on my car from the get-go. You cannot see anything happen as the ECU still computes it final results. Even with my AFR meter, I would not know anything but general readings.

RE: Scangauge question
Ive noticed the same as Rick,

To me SG is an invaluable tool when fine tuning of sensors is concerned and the ability to monitor each tweak closely. How anyone can successfully tune sensors without one is totally beyond me. Sure it could be done to some degree, But the possible long term damage to the engine, along with the fact that ECM open/closed status can also be monitored, makes it well worth the cost. The art of fuel economy savings, HHO technology, etc at this moment is all about FINE tune. In order to achieve optimum results you gotta have the proper tool for the job. MPG ive found best to just do the math at fillup.

Please Log in to join the conversation.

 Duel Ignition Plug Mod 04 Jun 2014 21:08 #10

Nate

 Offline

Adventurer

Thank you received: 9

Are you able to get the version?
