Karl - a DVOM and a code reader...both of those are quite inexpensive at Harbour Freight and the like...

Read through those links. They'll get you on the right diagnostic path and why, even if some of the codes may not match yours.

Tracy - yes, sadly I am familiar -way too familiar- with advertising like that...but that's exactly how it would be best for the product. Maybe further research into it will prevent too many foggy mountain breakdowns ;-p glad to provide laughs.

Man I've been burned bad from hot coolant 25 yrs ago. Was timing the dist. on a girlfreind's Chevy, it's idling hot, inadvertently stressed a heater hose, it breaks off...oh man, talk about painful, huge blisters on the neck, upper chest and shoulder...gauze, Silvodine burn cream and painer's for a week, took yrs for the scars to fade. Not Good.

Hey Karl, you can borrow my DVOM anytime, just stop on by, I'm just down the street... :lol

I advise getting a set of leads w/ the removable alligator clips on the ends, and the needle points direct on the lead ends, just used those points tonite to test a friend's furnace hot surface ignitor, using Continuity test. I'he had this DVOM over 20 yrs works great. The more functions the better.

Greg, I've never recorded a jingle soundtrack, though I have great imagination for that kinda stuff. I DID once do a voice-over for a sewing machine store. I used to do my own phone answering machine tapes back when they used loop cassette tapes. My Soviet Answering Machine one used to have strangers call the # just to hear it, my phone # would get passed around by friends. My mug was once on local late nite TV, I was an Admissions Rep for a Trade school, the guy who hosted a late nite movie show produced his own cheesy TV spots. I wore by chance a bright red sweater to work that day. He comes to the school, takes my pic, and my face is on the Jack Joseph show TV spot for Casino Careers Institute for the next year. I was in a movie once too, but enough of this Ivy League banter!

Update.

Since after the last fiasco of finding out which 02 sensors I needed on my truck, I decided to keep the old post Cat 02 just in case.
The front 02 was changed out a few years ago for an autozone sensor. After hours of research and calling I found someone who knew which ones I needed for front and back and bought them.
Now I changed out the front that supposedly was giving me the 0131+0132 codes for the old autozone sensor to see if that was the reason I was going to open loop and closed loop on interval basis.
Been now over a week and it stays in closed so it was the newer sensor that was not reading and giving me the open loop while driving.
So now no more codes for the 02 but I have the AZ sensor on which will be changed eventually for a new OEM sensor that should be there.
Greg,
Did pick up the volt meter for $23 at Harbor Freight(the really good one) so I will have it for future use.
Glad I didnt have to test the temp sensor since the 02 was the issue.

Well good for you, Karl. It sounds like you just added weight to the argument for using OEM O2's. as Mike Holler told us in the old HAFC program yrs ago.
You will soon bring that duck down, I tell ya! Kinda sucks having to stay in the Duck Blind so darn long. I've been seeing Missing Person flyers w/ your mug for some time now, they had you on the wall at Wally World along w/ the others, but your mug shot was gettin' all sun faded, so they took it down for someone better lookin'...

Well I think I'll map out a good driving route to SA now, and go visit Ystervark, 'cause I know Karl's gonna come after me for sure now! :silly: If I can make it to the Falklands, then I'm almost there..

Maybe you will stay put, if I can score a Colt pickup for ya in SA....? ;)
Can you imagine not having to worry about any O2's in the first place, man o man.... Would almost be worth it, having to learn to drive from the Right Hand seat and the left foot on the gas!

Glad to hear it, Karl, buddy! :cheer: the Mazda is a stubborn but Patient Teacher!

Well the 02 I have on there now is the autozone 02 because the OEM that I ordered over a year ago is the one that was throwing the code on me.
I changed out the OEM one for an autozone one and then I heard Mike Holler stress the OEMs for 02 sensors. That is when I had to do hours of research and calling to find out which ones I needed for front and back to be OEM. Put both on when I got them and noticed the difference in power, better response. Now because of the extender issue, the front OEM conked out and lucky I had the autozone one to put back in just to erase the codes and open loop issue.
Will get another OEM for the front in a week or two.

TracyG.

I got 2 Colts lined up for you.... Just say the word. You will get the hang of driving on the right side of the road after a few quick stops as you press the brake thinking it is the gas...lol

Maybe you should swim. I have contacts in the Coast guard. Will send them to save you.....

I think sitting in the "wrong side" of the truck, and using the "wrong foot for the wrong pedal" would itself be vexing, and especially fun in traffic. Now throw all that in but do it here in the US, so now you are on the right side of road, but perspective about turns and lane changes would be backwards.

Only way I can think of to make it even more fun, would be to plop down into the Colt, zero experience, and try to drive off into San Francisco traffic.   Probably a sure-fire way to get on the Evening News!

and, I would enjoy taking it in for a Smog Test... B)

Sure, Martin, I'll be right over, after all it's just a hop, skip, and oh, maybe 8000 mile swim...
Tell yer Coastie buddies I'll be the guy dog paddling and cursing! :P

Karl, as usual I got the understanding backwards re: your O2's OEM vs. aftermarket. Long as it works now and can get the right one in soon, it's all learning.
